Is Revelation 22:19 Only About Losing Rewards?
J.C. Thibodaux
The second great catch-all argument. Some unlearned in a frantic attempt to defend 'once saved, always saved' have actually argued that the tree of life and New Jerusalem are simply rewards apart from salvation. The big problem with this theory: There is no in-between in eternity. If you are a believer you will always with the Lord (1 Thessalonians 4:17) who is in the holy city (Revelation 21:2-3); if you do not believe, you are eternally lost in the fires of hell outside the holy city (see Revelation 22:14-15). Period.
"Blessed [are] they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without [are] dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.
Revelation 22:14-15
Bottom Line:
-
The idea that there will be believers in eternity outside of New Jerusalem and therefore separated from Christ is contrary to teachings of scripture.
