About Us and This Site

Welcome to InDeathorLife.org. I realize the name may seem a little curious, so I'll give you the story behind it. There is a story in 2 Samuel chapter 15, in which when David is fleeing from his son Absalom. David is a broken man at this point: his own son is trying to overthrow him, much of Israel had been taken with his rebellion, and even his most trusted counselor, Ahithophel, had sided with the wayward prince. As David stood at the outskirts of Jerusalem watching the few people who were still loyal to him march out, he spies a band of Gittites (immigrants from Gath, a city/province of the Philistines) that had recently moved to Jerusalem. David addresses Ittai, the leader of the Gittites, and tells them to return to their own land, for they are but strangers who had just recently arrived in Israel. It was of no real advantage for them to stay with him, and they had no part in this power struggle anyway; not even knowing where he would be going, David gives them his blessing and bids them farewell. But Ittai the Gittite would have none of it; he gives a stunning reply:

"As the Lord lives, and as my lord the king lives, surely in what place my lord the king shall be, whether in death or in life, even there also will your servant be."

2 Samuel 15:21

Ittai's loyalty to David was powerful, implicit. Though he had only served him a short time, this defector from an enemy nation threw in his lot with the king of Israel entirely. Circumstance was not a factor - his loyalty standing in stark contrast to David's own rebellious son. Not only is this a good story of friendship and trust, but it is also a perfect picture of how Christians should be with Christ. When your faith and love for Him gets you into a sticky situation, makes you unpopular, or when the proverbial chips are decidedly down, following Christ means displaying the same loyalty Ittai did to his king and friend, to follow Him wherever He may lead - whether in death or life.

So who am I? I'm a guy who studies his Bible a lot, working at becoming a minister and starting a church. I am married to a wonderful Christian woman and have a beautiful baby girl that God has blessed us with. I love discussing theology and God's word to gain better understanding, as well as sharing what I have learned with others. Which brings us to this site's purpose: To help give Christians a good understanding about doctrines taught in the Holy Bible, and answer some of the more difficult questions about salvation and other topics. Some issues that will be addressed here are relatively minor, such as the timing of the rapture; others are of the utmost importance, like the deity of Christ, with special emphasis being placed on the Christian walk and perseverance in Christ. May God bless you richly with wisdom and understanding as you study His word.
